On a crisp October morning, 8,000 people gathered near Fifth Third Field to walk in support of breast cancer research. The annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K Walk had many touching stories, but it was one local car dealer who was the single biggest fundraiser.
Jenell Ross, dealer principal of Bob Ross Buick GMC/Ross Motor Cars Mercedes-Benz, raised more than $12,000 to honor her mother Norma, who passed away on April 23.
Ross walked in the 5K, her first-ever such event, surrounded by more than 30 friends and family.
“Everyone was there as a tribute to my mother and her legacy. It was a great day and the emotions very much took over.”
She registered on Sept. 15, leaving her only a month to raise money. She said she didn’t know what to set as a goal or what to expect. After sending out emails to friends, family, employees, vendors and other dealers, she was amazed at the reaction.
“The outpouring of emotion and support I received has been great,” Ross said. “It shows the legacy she left on the community as a philanthropist and inspires me to do what I can to help find a cure for breast cancer and continue the fight.”
